“Vaporeon, it’s time for round two!” Artie could almost feel that Championship coming to her as she called forth her Vaporeon from his ball, but knew she had to keep her usual cockiness in check. Diantha wasn’t going to make this battle easy and certainly wasn’t going down without a fight. Vaporeon stood in front of her in a flash of white and though the damage from his earlier fight was still apparent, the Water-Type looked no worse than his opponent, essentially making the fight with Hawlucha even.

“Alright then, let’s wrap this fight up quick, Hawlucha—use X-Scissors,” the Champion shouted, directing the attack at Vaporeon. Hawlucha crossed her arms before than began to glow with a green light, and she launched herself forward at Vaporeon.

“Dodge it, Vaporeon!” Vaporeon waited until the final moment, almost worrying Artie that she hadn’t heard her command, but before she could call again, Vaporeon leaped high into the air, dodging the opponents attack. “Awesome!” Artie was impressed with the improvised agility, and looked to take advantage as Hawlucha still had her back turned to her Pokemon. “Now, use Aurora Beam!” Vaporeon fired a rainbow colored blast of cold at her opponent aiming for her back.

“Oh no you don’t,” Diantha shouted. “Fly directly into the air, Hawlucha!” Without turning to see why, Hawlucha launched himself upward dodging the attempted attack by Vaporeon. “You didn’t think we were going to let you win that easily did you,” Diantha asked as Hawlucha landed before her.

“Guess I probably shouldn’t have,” Artie half-joked, as Vaporeon stood ready to finish this. “Vaporeon, attack with Water Pulse!” Vaporeon threw her head back and then forward, releasing a powerful jet of water from her mouth.

“Dodge it,” Diantha began. “Use Poison Jab!” The hybrid Pokemon followed both commands and threw her fists back and leaped down upon the shocked Vaporeon, with a flurry of acidic punches that finally toppled the resilient Pokemon, leaving Aqua Ring unable to assist this time. “Ah! Vaporeon!” Artie sighed as she was forced to recall her Pokemon. “Vaporeon, you were amazing. You’ve earned a break.”

“I guess it’s up to you next, huh,” Artie said, smilingly slightly at the Pokeball she was about to throw. “You’re on…Ninetales!” With a flick of her wrist the ball went soaring into the air, with Ninetales falling gracefully to the ground on all fours. Artie could tell Diantha was feeling the pressure. She had three Pokemon left, and Hawlucha wouldn’t last another good hit, leaving it a two-on-three, including her Charizard. Still, she wanted to make sure nothing went wrong so knew she had to be just as careful. No doubt Diantha had powerful Pokemon besides Gardevoir. “Ninetales…attack with Extrasensory!”

“Hawlucha Do--,” before Diantha could get her Pokemon to dodge the attack, it was already too late, and after putting away two Pokemon of Arties’ she’d finally managed to take down Hawlucha. “Gah!”

“Awesome job, Ninetales,” Artie cheered, glad to finally be rid of that annoyance.

“Well done,” Diantha said, calling her Pokemon back. “Well done, Artie. I’m more than impressed to see that you’ve pushed me this far…but I’m not going to give in just yet!” Diantha reached for another Pokeball, and flung it forward and to the shock of Artie stood an impressively-sized Tyrantum. She certainly hadn’t expected such a dainty woman to have a beast of Pokemon like this, but didn’t let this rattle her. “Return, Ninetales!”

“Thank you for the compliment, Diantha. It means a lot…but don’t think that it means you’re going to beat us,” she said, reaching for a Pokeball of her own. “Show them what you’ve got…Haxorus!” Released from his ball, it was clear both Dragons were equal in size and both women were determined to show who the superior in terms of strength was. “Tyrantum…use Dragon Claw!”

Not to be outdone, Artie threw her own Pokemon forward for an attack. “Use Dual Chop!” Both Pokemon rushed forward, their claws and tusks gleaming with dragonic power respectively. The two clashed in the center of the room, struggling to prove their might against each other, finally forced to separate only as their attacks began to fade though each had wounds inflicted by the other in the retreat.

“You’ve raised an impressive Pokemon,” Diantha called as her own returned to her side.

“Same to you, Champ,” Artie called. “But like I said, you’re not going to beat me! Haxorus! Use Dragon Pulse,” the trainer called, causing Haxorus to open its mouth to release a reddish-purple blast of energy.

“Use Earthquake,” Diantha called to her Pokemon. “With a stomp of its tale and feet,” the entire area seemed to start caving in on itself, causing the majority of Haxorus’ attack to merely graze the intended target, as he struggled to regain himself, even after the initial attack and shock. “Haxorus!”

“Got ya!” Diantha was hoping to get a quick victory. “Use Head Smash, Tyrantum,” she shouted. The T-Rex-like Pokemon let out an ear-splitting roar and threw itself forward with almost unreal speed—Artie almost hadn’t thought of a response, but for her sake she did.

“Use Outrage!” In truth, this wasn’t Arties’ favorite move, but drastic times called for drastic measures and there wasn’t a more drastic move for her than Outrage, and that became all the more apparent as she saw her Pokemon take a heavy hit, and immediately attack back with unseen fury—swipes and punches to Tyrauntum left both Pokemon reeling, but at the end of their battle, Tyrantum fell, though it was apparent Haxorus was in quite the daze.

“I can’t believe I’m down to my last Pokemon,” Diantha murmured as she recalled her Pokemon, wishing him a good rest. “Alright…it’s up to you, Aurorus!” Another large Pokemon took the field as the champion released her final Pokemon.

“Return, Haxourus!” A lump in her chest formed as Artie realized she was just one more win away from becoming the Champion of Kalos, and she would do that with her best friend. “Let’s finish’em off, Charizard,” she called, releasing the black and blue dragon from his ball. “Are you ready, Charizard? Just one more win and we’ll be Champions!”

“Don’t think this fights over just yet,” Diantha called. “Use Thunder on Charizard,” she called, and in response her Aurorus stomped it’s feet, letting loose a powerful bolt of thunder at Charizard.

“Dodge it Charizard, and attack with Flamethrower,” Artie called, and her Pokemon responded with the greatest of ease, dodging the Thunder aimed at him and striking Aurorus with a powerful stream of blue fire. The attack appeared to deal a good deal of damage, and Charizard was still relatively fresh. Diantha and her Aurorus continued to fight on, though it became clear that Artie would not be denied. Another attempt at Thunder was dodged and countered again, this time with Shadow Claw ending the Championship match between now-former Champion Diantha, and the new Kalos Pokemon League Champion, Artie!

Diantha could only console her Pokemon, assuring her she was proud of her performance before approaching the new Champion and her Pokemon. “You did marvelously, Artie. I am more than pleased to have had the chance to battle you and you’re more than worthy to be the new Pokemon League Champion.”

The new Champion turned to her Charizard before thanking Diantha. “Thank you…but it wasn’t all me. Charizard and all my Pokemon helped me get here and I obviously wouldn’t have beaten you without them,” she said, thinking back on all the challenges she’d overcome and friends made thanks to her Pokemon. “They deserve this just as much as I do!”

Diantha smiled and proceeded to take Arties’ hand gently in her own. “I’m glad you think that way…because I would like to immortalize their accomplishment just as much of your own.” Diantha led the young woman to another Tractor Pad, bringing the two women to a higher room with a device similar to the ones used at the Pokemon Center. “Place your Pokeballs here…and your Pokemon will join the ranks of other legendary teams in the Kalos Hall of Fame,” she began, before taking hold of a medium-sized golden trophy. “And this belongs to you now…Champion Artie,” Diantha smiled, as Artie accepted her prize after placing all her Pokemon on the device and watching their images from the battle pass by on a screen before her, proud that she had such a powerful team and proud that she now carried the honor of the greatest trainer in Kalos.
Finally finished! All done for a friend of mine!
